Help & FAQ
How to use the Scanner
How to scan a document to PDF
- Tap Scan with camera and point your phone at the page. A green box shows the best crop — tap the round button to capture.
- Scan more pages, or upload photos you already have.
- Check the pages. Tap a page to see it full size, drag to reorder, or tap edit to adjust the corners, rotate or change the look — with a live preview.
- Choose the page size, turn on searchable text if you need it, and save your PDF.
Tips for a sharp scan
- Put the page on a darker surface, such as a table or a folder, so its edges stand out.
- Use daylight or a bright room, and avoid your own shadow over the page.
- Fill most of the frame with the page and hold the phone parallel to it.
How it works
The scanner finds the sheet's four corners, then straightens it with a perspective transform so it looks as if it was scanned flat. Auto colour estimates the colour of the bare paper across the page and evens it out, which removes shadows and the yellow cast of indoor light. With searchable text on, Tesseract (Apache-2.0) reads the words on your device. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Need to change something afterwards? Use the PDF Editor. To make the file smaller, use the PDF Compressor.
Is it really free, with no watermark?
Yes. There is no watermark, no page limit per day, no account and no paid version. Scan up to 50 pages into one PDF, as often as you like.
Are my documents uploaded?
No. The camera image, your photos and the finished PDF stay on your device. Finding the page, straightening it, cleaning it up and reading the text all happen in your browser.
Do I need to install an app?
No. It works in the browser on iPhone, Android and computers. On a phone, open this page and tap Scan with camera. You can also add it to your home screen from the browser menu.
How does it find the edges of the page?
It looks for the largest light, four-sided shape in the picture — your sheet of paper — and marks its corners. It works best with the page on a darker surface. If it misses, drag the corners into place; a magnifier helps you place them exactly.
What does searchable PDF (OCR) mean?
With Make text searchable turned on, the scanner reads the words on each page and adds them as invisible text behind the image. You can then search the PDF, and select and copy its text, while it still looks exactly like your scan. It reads English text best.
Which look should I choose?
Auto colour suits most documents: it makes paper white, removes shadows and keeps stamps, signatures and colour logos. Black & white looks like a photocopy and makes the smallest files. Greyscale is softer. Original keeps the photo as it is, just straightened.
Can I scan from photos I already took?
Yes. Choose Upload photos and pick one or more pictures — JPG, PNG, HEIC from an iPhone and more. Each photo becomes a page, straightened and cleaned in the same way.
